yeah I thought I recognised her, despite her disguise. As you know, she gets in our holiday photos too, and used to be in Kate's, whilst us slimmer younger wives seem suddenly absent from the photos ... who the hell is she, and why is she following all our husbands around? :twisted:

Was the 'energy' in Cuba any different this time, Torre? Or does where you stay not really have anything to do with the real Cuba?

I didn't detect any difference Thais, but nobody talks politics. The people who work at the resort are the lucky ones because they get stuff given to them by tourists. At least, the visible staff do. They talk to us about their lives and how long they travel to get to work. They show us pictures of their children. We got to know on both trips the girl who does hair braiding. We brought her a lot of stuff for her little daughter and she invited us to her apartment for dinner, but we didn't get a chance to go.

I just watched a movie called Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights - set in Cuba in 1958 at the onset of the Revolucion....a bit 'retro' if you know what I mean....was Cuba really like that under Batista? I suppose it must have been or there would have been no need for the revolucion! So if it was like that, I'm not surprised they chucked the Yanks out!!

I've resurrected this thread, as I'm trying to pluck up the courage to go to Havana on my own!

Being on my own in Havana is not the problem - it's the bliddy 10 hour flight!! :roll:

I've chosen October as it's the hurricane season!

Anyway......

I've been researching & looking at forums etc, and I found one that cracked me up! Someone asked about the electricity situation (voltage & plugs etc) and another guy replied:

We've never had an electricity problem in Cuba, but we've never been to Havana either.

This is probably because you were in the official tourist area. And the tourists may be the reason there are power cuts - and water outages too.
